When Imposter Syndrome Comes Knocking…

Last week, I stepped onto a stage to give my first keynote in over two months.
Two. Whole. Months.

For anyone who does speaking for a living, you know—that’s basically like dog years. And in that little gap, a sneaky guest decided to show up uninvited: Imposter Syndrome.

It didn’t just knock politely on my door, it barged right in and plopped itself on my mental couch, whispering:
“You’re rusty.”
“What if you’ve lost it?”
“Are you even good enough anymore?”

You know the drill.

Truth is, summer is a slower season for me. Conferences hit pause, clients are busy traveling, and I take the time to work on other projects I never get to touch during the busy months. I love the space, but this time, when it came time to “get back out there,” I felt… wobbly.

Here’s the thing about imposter syndrome: the longer we sit out, the louder it gets.
And the best way I know to shut it up? Do the thing.

So, I did. I walked on stage, mic in hand, heart pounding, and after the first few minutes, the nerves settled. My confidence came rushing back like it had just been waiting for me to open the door.

By the time I was driving home, windows down, blasting my favorite playlist, I remembered: Oh yeah… I AM good at this.

My tip for you:
If you’re feeling imposter syndrome creeping in, don’t wait until you “feel ready” again. Get back in the game. The magic doesn’t show up before you start, it shows up when you start.

Now, go crank up your victory playlist.
