When Life Feels Heavy, Lean Like the Sunflower 🌻

This past weekend, I found myself standing in the middle of a vibrant sunflower field, surrounded by bright faces turned upward, leaning toward the sun. As I stood there taking it all in, I paused and reflected: Why do sunflowers always lean toward the light?

Science tells us that sunflowers exhibit a behavior called heliotropism — they instinctively follow the sun from east to west, soaking in its warmth and energy to grow strong and healthy. It’s a beautiful, natural response woven into their very design. They grow by reaching for the light.

As I thought more about it, it struck me: We are not so different.

In a world where so many are navigating burnout, job loss, caring for aging parents, health battles, conflict at work, and other hidden struggles, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed — to feel like curling inward. But just like the sunflower, our path to growth, healing, and resilience often comes when we intentionally lean toward the light.

The light might look different for each of us:
•    A moment of gratitude in the middle of grief
•    A call from a friend just when you needed it most
•    A step forward in hope, even when you don’t feel strong
•    A small act of kindness that reminds you goodness still exists
•    Joining a community that lifts you up — like our next Coffee with Kelly call this Friday! ☕✨

Life’s storms will come, but we were made to seek the light. And when we do — even if it’s just a small lean in the right direction — we grow stronger, brighter, and more resilient.

This week, if you find yourself feeling heavy or weary, remember the sunflower. Pause, breathe, and ask yourself:
👉 Where can I lean toward the light today?

Sometimes it’s not about having all the answers.
Sometimes it’s just about remembering where to look.

You were made for the light. Keep reaching. 🌻
